5 Reasons Why Having a Website is Vital to Your Podcasting Success
A successful podcast is all about the audio, right?
Well not quite – having an enticing website is a real key component if you want your podcast to be a true professional brand.
Not only do they let you showcase your podcast in one place, but they help you stand out from the competition AND attract more brand sponsorships. What’s not to love?
Today, I’m going to take you through the 5 reasons why having a website is VITAL to your podcasting success.
1. It showcases your brand all in one place
Your website is essentially the shop-front to your business – and no one wants to go into a shop that has a shoddy exterior!
When you have a proper, responsive website for your podcast, suddenly, it opens up a world of new opportunities.
Instead of just having a list of your podcast’s name and episode titles listed on a hosting company’s website, you can showcase your podcast and brand in a way that’s professional and on-brand.
Having a website with multiple pages creates a better experience for your listeners, too. They have the opportunity to not only play your podcast, but to find out all about you, contact you, or even buy from your e-commerce store – all at the click of a button.
Similarly, you can easily add them to an email list or direct them to your social media channels, making listener retention easier than ever before.
2. You will attract more brand sponsorships and opportunities
Brands want a few things when it comes to sponsorship advertising.
Number one, is someone whose audience aligns well with their target market. Number two is someone whose values align well with theirs. And number three, someone who clearly takes their podcast and podcast’s growth seriously. Nothing says the latter better than a beautiful, well-designed website.
In a recent interview with podcast sponsorship queen Jessica Kupferman, I asked her “How do I make my podcast stand out in the sea of competition?”
Her response was “I think it’s a combination of having a really great website, podcast title and branding.
“Those three really are so important when it comes to attracting brand sponsorships because they will set you apart from other people who are doing a similar podcast to you.
If you can point sponsors in the direction of a beautiful website with amazing branding, then it feeds into what I was saying about how you look as though you take your podcast seriously even if it’s just a hobby.”
3. It helps you stand out from your competition
Podcasting has grown in popularity over the past few years, and in a big way!
Though this is great news for the industry, it does pose some challenges for podcasters – mainly, how to make sure you and your podcast are seen amongst the millions of others out there.
By now, you’ll already know that finding a specific niche is the best way to go for industry notoriety. Now consider two podcasts on the same subjects – one has a well-designed website, whereas the other doesn’t have one at all – which gives a better first impression to sponsors and listeners?
4. It gives you the flexibility to add extra platforms to your brand
Having a website for your podcast gives you the flexibility to add extra platforms to your brand. For example, many podcasters have a blog that they write on regularly to discuss their podcast’s content or to share news and events with their audience.
Having a different format of content on your website is great because you appeal to the people who perhaps don’t always have the time to listen to audio or generally prefer things in a written format. Our websites come with blogging functionality already built in.
Your website can grow and develop as your brand does. If you start selling products or e-books, Podcast Websites members are able to add an e-commerce functionality so they can start selling on their website.
Similarly, if you want to start another podcast and create a podcast network, you can host more than one website with us. The sky really is the limit when it comes to what you can achieve.
5. It makes things easier for your listeners
Having one call to action and one place to send your listeners to is incredibly valuable.
Sure, you can send them to iTunes, or Stitcher, or Google Podcasts to listen, or to Facebook, Twitter or YouTube to engage… or you could just point them to your website.
Having a central hub where they can instantly play your podcast on your homepage means you remove any unnecessary barriers that would stop them from listening.
Plus it means you have one simple call to action message in your branded platform.
