PowerPress Retired from Podcast Websites

PowerPress Retired from Podcast Websites

In early 2015, when we decided to build our Podcast Websites platform, brand and service we made the decision to be the one-stop shop, all-in-one service for podcasters looking to build their audio brand online.

Because of that, we also made the decision to become a fully fledged podcasting hosting platform with built-in media hosting, podcast download stats and publishing tools.

With our server infrastructures, download stats and publishing tools we’ve helped so many podcasters start and become audio influencers in their niche since then.

As with any startup, especially one that has no venture capital, angel or other types of investment, we had to prove the concept of Podcast Websites and test whether or not the podcast market wanted it in the early days,

They do, and as part of that testing, we made the decision to use Blubrry’s PowerPress plugin for WordPress in order to generate the RSS feeds for our podcasts on the websites.

The decision was based on needing to prove our minimum viable product based on being a smaller, startup team, at the time. That isn’t the case anymore.

Todd, Mike, Mackenzie and the team at Blubrry are wonderful at what they do and it’s with enormous thanks and respect that today we’re retiring PowerPress from all Podcast Websites websites.

Why?

Actually, there are a couple of reasons:

  1. It caused a little confusion. Every now and then a podcaster would ask us “are our podcasts hosted on Blubrry?”, and of course, we’d explain that we were their podcast host and that PowerPress simply generated the feed.
  2. This week we’re making a whole host of very big announcements here at Podcast Websites, and this is a precursor to those. In fact, we’ve already been slowly phasing PowerPress out of our sites over the last few months.

One of the interesting debates in podcasting is whether or not your website should generate your RSS feed – with Libsyn falling on the side of “no” for stability – what if your website goes down, etc – and Blubrry falling on the side of “yes” for ownership purposes, even with their podcast feed mirroring service now up and running to nullify the Libsyn crowd a tad.

Both sides of that debate are very valid and that’s a big part of why we have made the decision to build something completely fresh.

This week we’re making several announcements here at Podcast Websites in order to set the scene for the next five years of the business and we’ve come up with a few very special things that you’re going to really love as a podcaster.

“What will happen to my RSS feed within my Podcast Websites website?”

Excellent question, and a one that has a really simple answer, too:

Your RSS feed will be migrated to our RSS feed generation platform automatically by our amazing support team.

You don’t need to do anything, there will be no disruption to your podcast, your feed or your podcast publishing.

PowerPress will then be removed from your website and replaced with our brand new podcast hosting toolkit that is sure to captivate you.

Look out for a big set of announcements this week and into next from Podcast Websites – everything we do is to make your podcasting life easier and to help you on your path to becoming the audio influencer in your niche.

If you have any questions at all about this, always feel free drop our 24/7 support team a line via your support portal or hop on a one-to-one call with James, our Head of Podcaster Relations. His email is james@podcastwebsites.com, too.
