Member Spotlight: Melinda Hammond from Writer on the Road

Melinda Hammond is a teacher and a writer who wanted to share her expertise to inspire other people to write on the road. Now she’s created the Writer on the Road podcast.

What is Writer on the Road?

Writer on the Road is for individuals who want to write their story in a world that values quick answers. The show is designed to help writers who often feel alone in their projects feel like part of a great community. No matter where a person is on their writing journey, Writer on the Road can help them focus on the freedom to take your dreams and make them happen. Melinda brings on guests who know what it’s like to go it alone and who are more than willing to reach out to the writing community by sharing their journeys; authors, publishers, entrepreneurs, people at all stages of the voyage.

Melinda was inspired to start the podcast because she felt like it was time to share her story and encourage others to take ownership of their stories. “This is not as easy as it sounds and in these exciting ever-changing times, we can all tell our stories if we are brave enough to own them. There are plenty of generous people out there to help us on our way–my podcast, with its logo plastered all over the back of my caravan, is my way of spreading the Indie publishing word to others. We all dream of a life of freedom and I’m living proof that it’s there for the taking if we embrace the opportunities open to us.”

What’s in Your Podcast Recording Kit?

Melinda uses Zencastr, with her fallback gear being Skype and Ecamm. She has a Rode Video Mic Pro and an iPad Pro coupled with Ferrite. She’s almost entirely mobile – podcasting from anywhere is what it’s about when touring the Australian Outback. Think the Kimberleys, the Nullarbor, and the far-flung tropical rainforest of the Daintree. There are guys far more experienced than I working on the mobility thing – but I’ve got the gear, and I’m waiting in the wings.

Just do it. It gets easier with practice, and there are always people to help you. It is one of the most supportive communities to belong to, and we all have something to give.

I downloaded John’s podcasting book and did his free podcasting course, and obviously listened to his daily podcast.
